In this vector lesson, we’ll look at perpendicular distance between a point and a line or plane.
Perpendicular distance between a point and a line
To find the distance between a point, we first need to find a point on the line e.g. A. Once A is found, find vector AP, and the perpendicular distance from P to the line is taken to be :
where b is the direction vector of line l, (or any vector that is parallel to the line l).
Perpendicular distance between a point and a plane.
